Enrolment Requirements
The minimum qualifications are:
The trainees should be in the possession of and have passed at least on of the qualification options listed below: National Technical Certificate with four engineering related subjects at an N3 level (50% plus and at least one these subjects should relate directly to the trade that the trainee will undergo training in during the AATP. The participating employer shall further ensure that the selected trainees have as a minimum previously obtained on credit for Engineering Maths at N3 level and one credit for Engineering Science at N3 level;
- National Certificate: Vocational (engineering stream) with full exemption and passes at no less than 50% on all subjects, with relevant trade subject at all three levels;
- Senior Certificate: Matric (academic) or Grade 12 ) Technical High School) with Math and Science passes (50% plus) on standard grade – and two additional trade related subjects (50% plus) or alternatively, the merSETA registered unit standard based skills programme per the conversion guideline from the Nated subject of the trade;
- National Diploma; (incomplete UoT qualification) with at least one year’s credits (50% plus) from a University of Technology in a Mechanical or Electrical Engineering programme, where for any reason, the student has been unable to complete their studies;
- For all trades in the apprenticeship format – and in the absence of the minimum qualifications listed above, the trainee should be in possession of and passed a Section 13 trade test for an engineering related trade.
ACRA shall provide the trainees with training for the designated trade according to the merSETA training schedule for the relevant trade.
